A Month-long Journey of Faith and Discipline

In a world dominated by social media, taking a step back from the virtual realm can be a hard decision. However, for those seeking spiritual growth, healing, and self-discipline, a social media fast can be an incredible journey towards self-discovery and a deeper relationship with God. Today marks the beginning of my one-month social media fast, and in this blog post, I want to share with you the reasons behind this decision and the importance of prioritizing our spiritual well-being before college.

Finding Authenticity and Healing:

Social media has become a double-edged sword in our lives. While it connects us with friends, family, and the world at large, it can also serve as a distraction from the realities we need to face. I realized that I had been using social media as a crutch to avoid dealing with my own hurts and pains. However, as I discovered firsthand, ignoring our pain only leads to further distance from God and ourselves.

Proverbs 14:12, reminds us that there is a way that seems right to us, but it may lead to spiritual death. Choosing what is right often requires courage, hard work, and self-sacrifice. By taking this break from social media, I aim to find true healing, embracing the authentic process of self-discovery and personal growth that can only be found by turning inward and strengthening my relationship with God.

Nurturing a Relationship with God:

As I reflected on my spiritual journey, I realized that social media was causing me to drift away from God. While it is true that in biblical times, fasting was usually associated with abstaining from food, fasting from social media can also be a powerful practice for modern believers. In today's evolving world, where social media continues to play an increasingly significant role, it is vital to recognize the impact it has on our spirituality.

By dedicating this time to God instead of scrolling through feeds and daydreaming about another life, I hope to reestablish a consistent and deep relationship with Him. For me, this consistent connection brings immense peace and strength, which will be vital as I embark on the journey of college life.

To all incoming college Christians, I want to encourage you to keep your focus fixed on your goals and not to be sidetracked by detours that lead to sin. This period of self-reflection and growth will help prepare ourselves spiritually for the challenges that lie ahead in college. It is admirable to be prepared, but it is equally admirable to recognize our weaknesses and shortcomings.

In college, we may face numerous distractions and temptations that can shake our faith. By prioritizing God now, we are equipping ourselves with the spiritual tools needed to navigate these challenges. Recognizing that we cannot live this life alone, we lean on our relationship with God, seeking His guidance and strength in all that we do.

Embarking on this one-month social media fast is an intentional step for me towards personal growth, healing, and a deeper connection with God. By choosing to prioritize my relationship with God over the constant barrage of social media, I am opening myself up to true healing, authenticity, and self-discovery.

As I prepare for college, I am continuously reminding myself that being spiritually grounded is just as important as any other aspect of my life.
